For the Do-It-Yourselfer (DIY)
Are you:
- Technically inclined?
- Good with your hands?
- Careful to read the documentation thoroughly and completely
BEFORE beginning a project?
Then you might be ready to build your own solar electricity system,
and we can help by providing you with all the equipment you'll need
at discounts below list price, as well as advice on how to design
and install your own equipment. You'll have to be:
- Comfortable with heights (most installations go on top of one
to two story roofs)
- Good with your hands (finding the rafters under existing roofing
material, making water-tight penetrations with lagbolts, securing
the mounting hardware to the roof, attaching modules to the mounting
hardware, attaching high voltage wiring and ground wiring to each
module while it's a live power producing piece of equipment, running
conduit and wiring to the switches and inverters below)
- Careful with live, ultra high voltage (500+ volts DC)
- Meticulous with labeling positive from negative so that polarity
errors don't permanently short out the inverter
- Great at paperwork (the CEC and PG&E stack of forms is easily
an inch thick)
- Ready to deal with building and planning departments who may
be quite unfamiliar with solar or wind electricity
- Able to install everything in a way that passes muster with
both the local inspector (also possibly unfamiliar) as well as
PG&E's field crew and their technical requirements
- Willing to perform your own warranty repair if needed
If you can pass that test, you're ready to join the "DIY solar
electric corps", and we'll help get you enlisted! Call us today
for pricing on all the needed component parts. (Note that your discount
will not be as low as it would be if you have us install it - that
just makes economic sense for us, since we are not positioned as
a "parts-only" retailer.)
