Take these steps to winterize your solar pool heating system and protect your solar collectors if you expect freezing weather or if you will be away from home during the cold weather season:

• Position the automatic controller switch to "OFF".
• Wait 10-15 minutes to ensure that the system is gravity-drained
• If  installed with your system, turn off the Ball Valves 90 degrees (red-handled valves located by the pool equipment)
• If your system came with a hose bib, open the hose bib(s) on the roof to drain any remaining water from the panels. You can hook up an air compressor to the hose bib to blow out any water from the panels if there is any doubt that they are not completely drained.
• Leave the system like this until the freeze conditions are over. Then reverse the above steps.
